Top Australian economists slam cutting migration to boost wages
Australia’s leading economists have overwhelmingly rejected the idea of cutting down on Australian immigration for the sake of restoring lost wage growth.
In a poll by the Economic Society and The Conversation, 56 top economists in Australia were asked to opine on Australia’s potential immigration cuts to boost wages.
Every single economist bar five rejected the idea of cutting temporary migration to boost wage growth. All but three rejected the idea of cutting permanent migration.

Canadian Immigration
Over 7,000 provincial nomination ITAs issued by Canada in July
Canada invited more than 7,000 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in July.
A total of 7,176 PNP candidates were invited to apply for a nomination from a Canadian province under the different PNPs in the past month.
Canadian provinces – apart from Nunavut and Quebec – manage their own PNPs, which are permanent skilled immigration pathways for foreign workers deemed to have the necessary skills to elevate that province’s workforce.

Canadian health and food sectors facing increased job vacancies
Canada’s health and food sectors are facing high job vacancies, a report by Statistics Canada has shown.
According to Statistics Canada’s newly published report on job vacancies, the Canadian healthcare and food services sectors had the most employers looking to hire workers for open positions in May.
The report shows that Canadian employers were actively looking for employees to fill more than 671,000 vacant positions in May; the accommodation and food services sector had the most employers actively hiring, while the healthcare sector had the most job vacancies.

NZ migration: National outlines plans to mend ‘broken system’
New Zealand National Party released a plan to fix the country’s ‘broken immigration system.’
According to National, the new plan will clear Immigration New Zealand’s current residency backlog and provide onshore skilled migrants with a pathway to permanent residency in NZ.
National Party leader Judith Collins criticised the government for breaking the immigration system, saying that Immigration New Zealand currently has the longest queue for residence in its history, with residency applicants having to deal with record wait times for their applications to be processed, leaving them with no certainty of when they might become permanent residents.

Five fascinating facts on Australia!
Australia is a leading tourism destination in the world. Dubbed the “Land Down Under”, Australia is a country rich in history and traditions, and is filled with natural wonders, exotic flora and fauna, and facts that range from interesting to weird to downright crazy!
To help you learn more about Australia, here are five fascinating facts on the Land Down Under!
1. Australia is home to almost 12,000 beaches! If you visit one beach every day, it will take you more than 32 years to see them all!
2. Canberra was selected as Australia’s capital because other candidates Sydney and Melbourne could not stop arguing over which city should be made the capital!
3. In 1902, Australia became the second country in the history of the world to give voting rights to women! Nine years earlier, neighbouring New Zealand became the first country to allow women to vote!
4. Most Australian flora and fauna are exclusive only to Australia. In addition to kangaroos, you will find cuddly koalas, quokkas and wombats only in Australia, as well as some of the more venomous members of the animal kingdom!
5. The Australian Alps, located in southeastern Australia, are the highest mountain range in the country, and receive more snowfall than the Swiss Alps!

Panama
Panama registers 42,000 migrants crossing perilous Darien Gap
Panamanian authorities have recorded a staggering 42,000 migrants bound for North America entering the country through the treacherous Darien Gap.
Every year, migrants numbering in the thousands traverse through the Darien Gap to enter Panama – a six-day hike through a mountainous rainforest wilderness – on their way to the United States and Canada.
Although the transit of migrants collapsed in 2020 due to the pandemic, numbers are on the rise again as many try to enter the United States and Canada amid loosened border restrictions.
