Famous New Zealanders – Sir Ernest Rutherford!
Sir
Ernest Rutherford is regarded as the father of nuclear physics. He was born in
1871 in Brightwater, near Nelson, and was one of the first international
students to obtain a graduate scholarship to Cambridge – without having to go
through the undergraduate system!
Having
a brilliant scientific mind, Sir Ernest Rutherford made three major discoveries
that helped shape modern science as we know it. He was the first person in the
world to split an atom and discover its nuclear structure. Moreover, he
discovered alpha and beta rays, and put forward the laws of radioactive decay.
Sir
Ernest Rutherford was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1908 for his
work on radioactive chemistry and the transmutation of elements. He was later
knighted in 1914, and remains a true titan in the realms of science.

Biden hoping to address root
causes of migration
U.S.
President Joe Biden is hoping to address the root causes of migration that
force migrants to leave their homes in search of asylum in the United States.
During
Joe Biden’s first year in the office, record numbers of migrants attempted to
enter the United States from Mexico.

leading him to secure a $1.2 billion private-sector investment in Central
America to create new jobs and opportunities for people in that region.
