NSW accepting nomination applications for skilled migration

New South Wales is accepting applications from individuals seeking nominations for skilled migration to Australia with the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

The subclass 491 visa allows skilled individuals to apply for skilled migration to Australia and live, study and work in a designated regional area for five years.

Nomination applications submitted by skilled migrants will be reviewed by the NSW government, after which the State will invite selected applicants to apply for Australian skilled migration.

NSW updates occupations list for Skilled Nominated visa

New South Wales has updated its eligible occupations list for skilled migration to Australia with the subclass 190 visa.

According to NSW’s new update, offshore candidates in several eligible occupations will be considered for permanent Australian skilled migration in invitation rounds for the Skilled Nominated (Permanent) visa (subclass 190).

Moreover, both onshore and offshore applicants for the subclass 190 visa must have three years of work experience in some eligible occupations to qualify for permanent skilled migration to Australia.

Canada boosts economy with 55,000 new jobs in December

Canada added 55,000 new jobs to the economy in December, with more core-aged newcomers being employed than before the pandemic, a Labour Force Survey by Statistics Canada has found.

The survey, that studied economic conditions between December 5 to 11, found most new skilled migrants were employed in full-time jobs, with significant rises in employment in two critical sectors – professional, scientific, and technical services, and wholesale and retail trade.

Employment in professional, scientific, and technical services rose by 26,000 jobs (31.3 per cent), while wholesale and retail trade added 20,000 jobs (28.7 per cent).

Calls grow for audit of slow Immigration NZ processing times

New Zealand’s immigration industry has called for an audit of Immigration NZ’s lethargic processing of the 2021 residence programme applications.

Exasperated members of the immigration industry also urged a root-and-branch probe of Immigration NZ’s operations, which has been dogged by IT troubles.

Immigration NZ’s operations and slow processing times were also labelled as ‘shambolic’ by migrants and members of the immigration industry.

How Australia welcomed 2022!

Australia is renowned for welcoming the new year with aplomb, and this year was no exception! From breathtaking fireworks to streets coming alive with dancing crowds, Australia greeted 2022 in style!

In Sydney, an extravagant fireworks display was the star of the show. Organisers promised six tonnes of fireworks, 9,000 aerial shells, 25,000 shooting effects and 80,000 pyrotechnic effects, and they did not disappoint! The display started with animations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancers illuminating bridge pylons. Then, as the clock chimed midnight, fireworks lit up the sky over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and kicked off the city’s world-famous fireworks show to welcome the new year!

In Melbourne, Aussies partied and danced on the streets to bid farewell to a troublesome 2021. The fashion flair and party spirit on display in Melbourne’s Federation Square was a sight to behold, and people welcomed 2022 with positivity cranked up to the max!

Crowds also flocked to beaches all over Australia and revelled in the glorious festivities from their vantage points to welcome the new year!

U.S. restarts Trump-era policy of returning migrants to Mexico

The United States restarted a program to return asylum seekers to Mexico and wait for U.S. court hearings following a federal court order.

The controversial policy, called the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), was put in place by former Republican President Donald Trump.
