Australia grants 160,000 permanent residency visas in 2020-21

Australia granted 160,052 permanent residency visas to onshore applicants in the 2020-21 Migration Program.

Applicants received the 160,052 PR visas against a visa-grant ceiling of 160,000, with this year’s intake being a significant increase from the 140,000 visas granted in the 2019-20 Migration Program.

Speaking on the migration intake in 2020-21, Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke said that Australia’s well-managed Migration Program would help support the country’s economic recovery following the pandemic.

Australian businesses urge priority return of skilled workers

Australian business leaders have urged the country’s government to allow skilled migrants to return and aid businesses suffering from skills shortages.

This latest urge from Australian business leaders comes following the government’s announcement – which failed to mention a date – of letting skilled migrants return to Australia as a priority group.

Earlier this month, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that returning Australians would get the first priority, with double vaccinated skilled migrants and international students next on the priority list of people arriving in Australia.

Candidates needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of between 463 and 467 points to be invited by Ontario to apply for a provincial nomination in this round of Canada’s periodic invitation draws.

The new visa will be a one-off, and available to onshore skilled visa holders, including skilled migrants with Essential Skills, Work to Residence, and Post Study Work visas and their relatives.

Skilled migrants who enter New Zealand as critical workers for six months or longer until July 31, 2022 will also be eligible for the new Resident visa.
