Australia to hold quarterly skilled visa invitation rounds in 2021

Australia’s Department of Home Affairs has announced that invitation rounds for skilled migration visas to Australia will be held every quarter for the remainder of the 2020-21 program year.

Invitation rounds for Australian skilled migration visas have been run on a monthly basis in 2020, with the last round of visa invitations being held in October.

According to the new cycle, the next invitation round will run in January 2021.

Skilled migration visas included in the rounds this year are the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

Canadian Immigration

Canada welcomed 15,000 new permanent immigrants in October

Canada welcomed 15,000 new permanent residence immigrants to its shores in October 2020, according to new data by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The new permanent residence arrivals remained at the same level as September 2020, with 15,000 new permanent migration visa holders also moving to Canada in September.

In the first ten months of 2020, Canada welcomed around 158,600 new immigrants to the country, with the outbreak of the coronavirus and ensuing border closures and travel restrictions significantly hindering immigration momentum.

Manitoba holds biggest invitation draw of 2020 for Canadian skilled migration

Manitoba held its biggest invitation round of 2020 with 419 invitations issued to Canada’s skilled migration candidates under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).

This round of the draw, held on December 17, saw 419 applicants invited to apply for a provincial nomination for skilled migration to Canada under three immigration streams of the MPNP: Skilled Workers in Manitoba, International Education and Skilled Workers Overseas.

After this round of the draw, Manitoba has invited 4,888 skilled immigration applicants to apply for skilled migration to Canada under the MPNP.

Ontario invites 668 tech candidates for Canadian PR

Ontario invited 668 candidates to apply for Canadian immigration with permanent residency in the latest round of its Tech Draw held on December 15.

All 668 invited applicants were skilled individuals in the tech sector who had applied for skilled migration to Canada with the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).

The invited applicants did not need to already have a job offer from a Canadian employee in Ontario at the time of the draw, but were required to have at least one year of work experience in Ontario’s eligible occupations.

New Zealand Immigration

Unions urge for skilled migrants in NZ to be given PR

New Zealand unions have urged the government to reward long-term skilled migrants with permanent residency in the country.

Speaking on the issue, Unite Union national director Mike Treen said that since migrant workers cannot travel to New Zealand during the pandemic, it makes more sense to allow the onshore skilled migrants to remain in the country.

He also criticised Immigration New Zealand for making it progressively harder for skilled employees to become permanent New Zealand residents, and called for the ‘broken’ immigration system to be fixed so that it can deliver on the promise of allowing those travelling to the country to make the transition to permanent residency.

Celebrating New year's Eve in Australia!

Australia, being in the Southern hemisphere, welcomes the new year in the summer and also earlier than most countries. In this country of diverse cultures, people greet the new year in a variety of fun ways.

In most cities, the preparation for welcoming the new year begins with the New Year’s Eve events, which includes masquerade-themed parties, pub and beach parties, and even parades. Celebrities also drop by in the parties along with everyone else!

At the end of the chorus countdown, when the clock strikes midnight, the eagerly waiting people are treated to a mesmerising display of breathtaking fireworks which illuminate the night sky. The sparkling colours showering down from the sky brings hope and contentment in the hearts of the spectators as they greet the new year with their loved ones.

Many Aussies also visit the church in the early hours of the morning to pray for success and good health in the new year, while others engage themselves in outdoor activities and enjoy a wholesome NYE with family and friends.

Joe Biden to ‘immediately’ introduce immigration bill

US President-elect Joe Biden has said he will introduce an immigration reform immediately after taking office.

Biden, who is set to take the oath as the next President of the United States on January 20, said the new immigration bill will look to deliver on his election promise to reverse the Trump administration’s “cruel” immigration policies.

Biden had also previously ensured that his government will overhaul the immigration system established by the Trump administration within 100 days of taking office.
