Australian Immigration

Coalition MPs urge faster return of skilled migrants to AU

Coalition members of Australia’s parliamentary committee have urged the government to fast track the return of skilled migrants to Australia.

The government-dominated committee said this approach could help fill more than 50,000 job vacancies that are currently besetting regional Australia.

The committee also urged the government to reserve seats for skilled migrants on flights to Australia and dedicate spaces for them in quarantine facilities.

Australia targets prompt return for temporary visa holders

Australia will look to facilitate the quick return of temporary visa holders to Australia, said the new Immigration Minister Alex Hawke.

Addressing hundreds of thousands of temporary migrants stranded outside Australia, Mr Hawke signalled that the government would look at bringing them back to the country as soon as possible.

He said that as soon as the vaccination programs are successfully rolled out, Australia will be better equipped to open its borders, which will allow the resumption of important visits from tourists and international students and their contribution to the Australian economy.

Canadian Immigration

Canada tops US as most attractive skilled migration destination

Canada has surpassed the United States to become the most attractive destination in the world for skilled migration, a report has found.

According to a survey conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and The Network, 209,000 participants from 190 countries chose Canada over the US as their preferred destination for skilled migration.

Canada was selected as the preferred skilled migration destination by the respondents to the survey who included Doctorate and Master’s degree holders, skilled workers with digital experience and foreign workers less than 30 years of age.

5,000 Express Entry candidates invited to apply for Canadian PR

Canada continued its commitment to inviting skilled migrants to the country by inviting 5,000 Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residency.

The invitation round, held on March 18, saw 5,000 Express Entry candidates belonging to the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program issued invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency in Canada.

Invited applicants in this round of the draw needed 449 points on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score to successfully receive an ITA.

New Zealand Immigration

Skilled migration to NZ likely to fall after borders reopen

New Zealand’s Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi has said the country is likely to face a dip in skilled migration once border restrictions are lifted.

Speaking on skilled migration to New Zealand, Mr Faafoi also said that reviewing the country’s skilled migration program is a priority for the NZ government.

He urged caution that while skilled migration will likely be boosted initially in the immediate aftermath of opening the country’s borders, this rise will not last because of population decreases and other related complications from source countries.

Popular Australian Recipe – Pikelets!
Pikelets, an Aussie favourite delicacy, are miniature pancakes. They are delicious, bite-sized and more convenient than regular pancakes, which makes Pikelets an absolute must-try! Here, we have attached the full recipe so that you can effortlessly treat yourself to these scrumptious goodies!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups Plain Flour;
  • 2 1/2 tbsp Baking Powder;
  • 2 tbsp Sugar;
  • 1 Egg;
  • 3/4 cup Milk;
  • 1/2 tbsp Vanilla Extract;
  • 2 tbsp Butter;
  • Strawberry Jam and Cream for topping.

Procedure

  1. Beat the egg, milk and vanilla extract together in a bowl.
  2. Take all the dry ingredients – flour, baking powder and sugar – in a large bowl and mix them well. After mixing them thoroughly, create a well at the center and pour in the mixture of egg, milk and vanilla extract.
  3. Whisk the two mixtures together until you get a smooth, thick batter.
  4. Take 2 tablespoons of butter, put it on a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and let it melt.
  5. After the butter melts, add 2 tablespoons of the smooth, thick batter from Step 3 and let it cook until tiny holes emerge on the surface. Flip over the batter and let it cook again until its colour turns a rich golden brown.
  6. Take your Pikelets off the heat and top it off with strawberry jam and cream to taste.
  7. Your steaming and delectable batch of Pikelets is now complete and ready to serve!

US stepping up migrant expulsion at Mexico border

The United States is expelling migrants caught crossing the border back to Mexico, far from where they were caught, witnesses say.

According to Reuters, migrant families said in interviews that they were stopped at the border and flown to El Paso, Texas, where they were detained for a few days before being escorted back to Mexico via the international bridge to Ciudad Juarez – around 800 miles from where border patrol agents caught them.

This practice of expelling migrants back to Mexico comes following the Biden administration facing pressure from critics and supporters alike for its handling of the growing humanitarian crisis at the US-Mexico border.
